Hoy celebramos la Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad. Somos definitivamente una Iglesia Trinitaria: nos persignamos, bendecimos, bautizamos en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo; en otras palabras, la Santísima Trinidad está en nuestro ADN como Católicos.

La semana pasada celebrábamos la venida del Espíritu Santo; hace como ocho semanas celebrábamos la resurrección de nuestro Señor Jesucristo; y hoy las lecturas nos hablan del amor del Padre, “Dios amó tanto al mundo…” En nuestros días vivimos en un mundo en el cual pareciera que somos autosuficientes y que no necesitamos que Dios camine con nosotros; de hecho, en muchos países, incluyendo el nuestro, se ha vuelto ilegal mencionar a Dios en lugares públicos.

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. We are definitely a Trinitarian Church: we make the sign of the cross, we bless, we baptize, in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit; in other words, the Holy Trinity is in our DNA as Catholics.

Last week we celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit; about eight weeks ago we celebrated the resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ; and today the readings talk to us about the love of God the Father, “for God so loved the world…”

Al dar la bienvenida al mes de mayo, el mes dedicado a la Santísima Madre, acudimos a ella como Madre del Señor, Madre del Hijo de Dios, y le pedimos su poderosa intercesión. Bajo los títulos populares de Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Nuestra Señora del Rosario, acudimos a ella en estos tiempos difíciles para pedir protección y la gracia de la conversión del corazón y de la mente.

May the peace of the Risen Lord, Jesus, be with you!

As we welcome the month of May, the month dedicated to the Blessed Mother, we turn to her as Mother of the Lord, the Mother of the Son of God, and ask her for her powerful intercession. Under the popular titles of Our Lady of Peace and Our Lady of the Rosary, we turn to her during these troubling times for protection and for the grace of conversion of mind and heart.

La Ascensión del Señor conmemora cómo Jesús ascendió al cielo cuarenta días después de su gloriosa resurrección. Este misterio encierra mucho más que el simple recuerdo de un acontecimiento. La Ascensión de nuestro Señor nos invita a reflexionar sobre esos cuarenta días que Él pasó con sus discípulos antes de ascender al cielo.

Al iniciar su misión de guiar al pueblo de Dios, Moisés pasó cuarenta días en el monte Horeb. Fue un tiempo de preparación para recibir la Ley de Dios. Antes de su ascensión al cielo, Jesús prepara a sus discípulos para continuar su misión. Podría haber ascendido en el momento de resucitar de entre los muertos, pero eligió pasar tiempo con sus discípulos.

The Ascension of the Lord recalls how Jesus ascended to heaven forty days after his glorious resurrection. The mystery has more to it than a mere remembrance of an event. Our Lord’s Ascension invites us to reflect on those forty days He spent with his disciples before ascending to heaven.

Upon starting his mission of leading God’s people, Moses spent forty days on Mount Horeb. It was a time of preparation for receiving God’s Law. Before His ascension into heaven Jesus prepares his disciples to continue his mission. He could have ascended when he rose from the dead, but he chose to spend time with his disciples.

Al reflexionar sobre el Evangelio de San Juan de este domingo, escuchamos a Jesús hablar con ternura: "Si me aman, guardarán mis mandamientos". Estas palabras no pretenden ser una carga, sino una invitación a vivir en relación con Él a través del amor, expresado en nuestras acciones cotidianas.

En nuestra comunidad escolar católica, vemos este Evangelio hacerse vida cada día de maneras sencillas pero significativas. Cuando nuestros estudiantes eligen la bondad por encima de la crueldad, la honestidad por encima de los atajos y el servicio por encima del interés propio, están respondiendo al llamado de Cristo. Están aprendiendo que el amor no es solo un sentimiento, sino un compromiso que se expresa a través de la acción.

As we reflect on this Sunday’s Gospel from John, we hear Jesus speak with tenderness: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” These words are not meant as a burden, but as an invitation to live in relationship with Him through love expressed in our daily actions.

In our Catholic school community, we see this Gospel lived out each day in simple yet meaningful ways. When our students choose kindness over cruelty, honesty over shortcuts, and service over self -interest, they are responding to Christ’s call. They are learning that love is not just a feeling, but a commitment expressed through action.

We commonly hear this Gospel reading at funerals, as it reminds us of Jesus’ promise to prepare a place for us for the time when we go to Him.

In truth, while it certainly serves as a reminder, it is meant more for all of us—urging us to remain attentive—for, much like Thomas, we too harbor certain questions as we walk our journey of faith. Jesus is clear and concrete in reminding us that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; and that the dwelling place He is preparing for us in the Father’s house can be reached only through Him.

Este evangelio comúnmente lo escuchamos en un funeral ya que nos recuerda la promesa de Jesús de prepararnos un lugar para cuando vayamos a él.

En realidad, si es un recordatorio, pero más bien para todos nosotros, a que estemos atentos, ya que también como Tomas tenemos algunas interrogativas al caminar en nuestra fe. Jesús es claro y concreto al recordarnos que Él es el camino, la verdad y la vida y para llegar a la morada que él nos prepara en la casa del padre solo se puede llegar a través de Jesús. En estos cuatro anteriores domingos de pascua nos lo ha estado explicando después de su resurrección.

Dear brothers and Sisters, on this Fourth Sunday of Easter, often called Good Shepherd Sunday, we listen to the voice of Jesus Christ in the Gospel of John (10:1 –10). He speaks not only as the shepherd, but strikingly as “the gate.” This image invites us into a deeper trust: He is both the one who leads and the very way by which we enter into life.

Saludos de paz y alegría en el nombre de Cristo:

Queridos hermanos y hermanas, en este Cuarto Domingo de Pascua, a menudo llamado Domingo del Buen Pastor, escuchamos la voz de Jesucristo en el Evangelio de Juan (10, 1–10). Él habla no solo como el pastor, sino, de manera llamativa, como “la puerta”. Esta imagen nos invita a una confianza más profunda: Él es tanto quien guía como el camino mismo por el cual entramos en la vida.

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

As we continue to celebrate the Easter season, we are reminded of Jesus’ victory of life over death and light over darkness. Let us never forget that the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is indeed the foundation of our hope and the true source of peace.

Even in this season of hope, we find our hearts are heavy, and we must not close our eyes as we witness ongoing violence and suffering in the Middle East and beyond. Living in fear and mourning the loss of loved ones, many across the world long for stability and peace.

Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:

Mientras continuamos celebrando el tiempo de Pascua, se nos recuerda la victoria de Jesús de la vida sobre la muerte y de la luz sobre las tinieblas. No olvidemos nunca que la Resurrección de Jesucristo es verdaderamente el fundamento de nuestra esperanza y la fuente auténtica de la paz.

Incluso en este tiempo de esperanza, nuestros corazones están apesadumbrados, y no debemos cerrar los ojos ante la violencia y el sufrimiento continuos en el Medio Oriente y más allá. Viviendo con miedo y lamentando la pérdida de sus seres queridos, muchos en todo el mundo anhelan estabilidad y paz.

“Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.’” (John 20:27)

In my early 20s, I volunteered at a parish youth group. I witnessed teens encountering Jesus with a fresh, romantic wonder that reminded me of my own teenage conversion. But something had changed in me. I was quietly jaded and cynical. When teens shared stories of encountering Christ, I’d want to sarcastically murmur, “Well, good for you.” I had grown suspicious of the zeal I once knew.

El misterio del Reino de Dios es comunicado por el evangelizador. Ese gran misterio es el que Jesús, en su vida terrena, trató de enseñar a sus discípulos, y ya resucitado, dio continuación a ese misterio. Lo demuestra el Evangelio de hoy: tres veces repite la frase tan necesitada en este tiempo que estamos viviendo: “¡La paz esté con ustedes!” (Juan 20:19).

Jesús remarca la importancia de la paz para comunicar su enseñanza. El papa León XIV lo menciona en casi todos sus mensajes: “La paz se construye en el corazón y desde el corazón” y “La paz también requiere practicar la justicia”, por mencionar algunas frases que nos ayudan a reflexionar en su mensaje. Aunque las frases sean cortas, son profundas y nos ayudan a ver al Señor Resucitado, y así poder decir a los más cercanos, como los discípulos dijeron a Tomás: “Hemos visto al Señor” (Juan 20:25).

Happy Easter to you!

This weekend we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. It is a big celebration for us. Why? Because “as we have shared in a death like his so too will we share in His Resurrection.” This is taken from one of the preface prayers for a funeral Mass. This is what gives us hope. When life becomes too heavy for us, when we are overwhelmed, when we feel like no one sees us, we trust that Jesus is with us to make it through this life.

¡Felices Pascuas para ti!

Este fin de semana celebramos la Resurrección de Jesús. Es una gran celebración para nosotros. ¿Por qué? Porque "así como hemos compartido una muerte semejante a la suya, así también compartiremos su Resurrección". Esto está tomado de una de las oraciones del prefacio de una Misa exequial. Esto es lo que nos da esperanza.
