12th Sunday In Ordinary Time
by Bishop Myron J.Cotta | 06/21/2026 | From the ClergyDear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Every Sunday and Solemnity, after listening to the Word of God, we stand and profess our faith together: I believe in one God, the Father almighty … I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God … I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.
These are not simply words we memorize. They are the heart of our Christian identity. We are a people baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
We begin every Mass in the name of the Trinity. We end every Mass with the blessing of the Trinity. We begin our prayers with the Sign of the Cross invoking the Blessed Trinity.
In every sacrament, God reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit always leads us to Jesus, and Jesus always brings us to the Father. Recently, we heard in the Book of Exodus, Moses encounters the living God upon the mountain.
The Lord reveals Himself as “a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity.” Moses bows down in worship because he recognizes that God is not distant, but loving and faithful. The Trinity is not a puzzle to solve, but a mystery of divine love into which we are invited. And it is Jesus who gives us perhaps the most beautiful summary of God’s love:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” The Father sends the Son for our salvation, and the Holy Spirit fills our hearts with that saving love.
The Trinity is a communion of perfect love overflowing into the world. We remember, in a special way, that the Holy Spirit is the Lord, the giver of life. The Spirit strengthens the Church, inspires faith, renews hearts, and gathers people of every language and nation into one family of God.
The Holy Spirit leads us deeper into the mystery of the Trinity and strengthens us to live as disciples of Christ. At Mass, we encounter the presence of the Holy Trinity most profoundly in the Eucharist. Here, the Father feeds His children with the Body and Blood of His Son through the power of the Holy Spirit. Heaven touches earth at the altar.
The Trinity is not far away; God comes near to us. Also, Our Blessed Mother Mary is intimately united to the mystery of the Trinity and to God’s plan of salvation. The Father chose her as the mother of His Son. The Holy Spirit overshadowed her. Through her “yes,” Jesus entered the world. Mary always leads us closer to her Son and deeper into the life of the Trinity.
So, we as the Church, proclaim: “Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; to God who is, who was, and who is to come!”
May the Holy Trinity dwell with us. And may every Sign of the Cross we make remind us that we belong to the living God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Amen.
In the Peace of Christ,
