Happy Mother's Day

We as human beings show our love to others in different ways: we do it with words, giving gifts, taking others to favorite places they like to visit. We express our love for others in different ways, but the love that Jesus asks of us today in the gospel goes beyond a feeling.

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments… He who accepts my commandments and keeps them, he loves me” (John 14:15-21).

Jesus before the question of a Pharisee "Master, what is the most important commandment of the Law?". Jesus told him "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind... You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:36-40).

These two commandments are the basis for all the others. Jesus is asking us that everything we do be out of love, but sometimes we have to do it with a love of sacrifice and service, just as he loves us with a love full of mercy and sacrifice. “For God so loved the world that he gave his own son…” (John 3:16). God gave his own son to die on the cross and Jesus accepted that death out of love for us

Jesus tells us that we love him when we keep his commandments. What are we willing to do to fulfill the commandments? Are we capable of making sacrifices and serving other people, as Jesus asks of us?

The vast majority of mothers are capable of unconditional love. Moms stay awake and forgive, even if their children leave home like the prodigal son, they are always waiting for their son to return with open arms, ready to forgive and understand, even if this son does not deserve it.

To all moms I wish Happy Mother's Day!
